Ahmed Helmy Appointed by UNICEF as Regional Ambassador for Middle East & North Africa (MENA) : June 06th, 2021

UNICEF chose Egyptian megastar Ahmed Helmy to serve as Regional Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa.

“I am truly excited about this new role, I am delighted to continue to work with UNICEF to advocate for children’s rights across the region” said Helmy during the ceremony tailor made to announce his appointment as regional ambassador which was held through online video on June 6.

In 2017 Helmy was chosen to serve as UNICEF Ambassador in Egypt and has participated in multiple events to advocate for child protection and empowerment.

Helmy has previously cooperated with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to promote for the Food for Education project.

Additionally, Helmy collaborated with UNICEF in the #FightUnfair social media campaign launched in December 2015 to shed the light on the challenges facing children and young adults in Egypt. 

Both Helmy and his wife Zaki were appointed as UNICEF Egypt Ambassadors; both were featured in two short videos promoting for ending violent disciplinary practices.

Hannibal Mejbri Crowned Manchester United’s Under-23s Player of the Year For 2020/21 : May 2021

Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) Wins Top Awards in MENA region for Innovation : 2021

The Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) has won two gold awards at the Middle East and North Africa Stevie Awards, which recognize innovation in the region’s business sector.

  • The First gold award for innovation in business information or application websites, for developing the Tamkeen app to apply for and follow up on loans.
  • The 2nd gold award was for a mobile app for SIDF clients.

Winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards are determined based on average marks by 60 global professional figures through six juries.

Hollywood Movie ‘ The Mauritanian’ -True Story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi : April 2021

The Mauritanian is a 2021 legal drama film based on the true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian man who was held for fourteen years (from 2002 to 2016) without charge in the Guantanamo Bay detentian camp, a United States military prison.

Awards / Nominations :

 – 78th Golden Globe Awards the film received two nominations; Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama (for Rahim), with Foster winning Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture.

At the 74th British Academy Film Awards the film received five nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film , and Best Actor for Rahim.

Morocco Wins Gold : 28th Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad : May 24th, 2021

For the second year in a row Morocco wins at the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad held in Tunisia.

28th Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) hosted virtually in Tunisia on May 23-24. 

The PAMO the annual competition consists of two 4.5 hour rounds and participants must answer three questions per round. The event challenged students to answer advanced calculus and trigonometry questions.

Students from 14 countries including Angola, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tunisia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Republic of the Congo, and Zimbabwe competed in the event.

Over 60 high school students representing their home countries attended the virtual event with Morocco’s El Ibbaoui Mohamed and Achak Abderrahmane coaching the team to victory.

The organization crowned Beni Mellal’s Aya Akargout the “Queen of African Mathematics 2021” after her gold medal win alongside Marrakech’s Youssef Bouhtouch. 

In addition, Morocco’s Mohammed Ayoub, Adam Kharraz, Hiba Benabou, and Asmae Hibat Allah won silver medals. 

All of the students are members of Morocco’s national mathematics team operating under the Ministry of Education.

UNICEF Morocco Appoints Achraf Hakimi ‘Champion for Children’ – May 2021

The UNICEF office in Morocco announced the appointment of Moroccan international football star Achraf Hakimi as children’s rights champion.

Hakimi, 22, is triumphing not only in his humanitarian works but also in his football career.

The football player is a key element in both his international club Inter Milan and Morocco’s national team.

UNICEF launched the initiative to appoint public figures from all fields, including arts, academics, and sports among others to engage in its efforts to help raise awareness of children’s rights.

Champions for Children are prominent individuals from arts, music, academics, ICT, sports, community-based organizations, or other fields who help to raise awareness of children’s rights.

The initiative is in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is the “most widely ratified human rights treaty in history,” UNICEF said.

Manufactured at Gulf Craft’s integrated in-house production facility in the UAE, the Majesty 175 successfully completed a series of sea trials before its global premiere. The yacht will soon venture on voyages across the world, taking the UAE flag to global yacht events, marinas and exotic destinations, placing the country prominently on the world yachting map.

Built to the specifications outlined by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for yachts over 500 gross tonnage (GT), the 55-metre long superyacht with a beam of 9.6 metres has a gross tonnage of 780.
