Raja Casablanca Wins Final, Takes Home Mohammed VI Arab Cup : August 21st, 2021

Morocco’s Raja Casablanca football club beat Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad of Jeddah to take home the Mohammed VI Arab Club Cup on Saturday, August 21.

Raja’s victory came after an intense game against the Saudi team that ended in a 4-4 draw, with the Moroccan club edging out a victory during the penalty shootout, scoring four out of five shots, to Ittihad’s three goals. 

For Raja Casablanca , Ilias Haddad scored in the 5th minute, Mahmoud Benhalib in the 13th, Zakaria El Wardi in the 36th, and Soufiane Rahimi scored the fourth goal in the 50th minute. As for the Saudi team, Bruni Henrique scored the game’s first goal in the fourth minute, and Romario Ricardo Silva, known as Romarinho, scored goals in the 28th, 53rd, and 64th minutes of the game.

Ultimately, the Moroccans won the game in the penalty shootout, with the Raja-Ittihad game ending on 4-4, 4-3 in  aggregate. The Mohammed VI Cup’s final took place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat.

Overall, 38 teams participated in the tournament, with 18 coming from Africa and the other 18 coming from Asia. There were 72 matches played and a total of 174 goals scored. The tournament’s top scorer was Romarinho, with a total of seven goals. Teams from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Algeria, amid others, participated in this year’s cup.

Qatar Swimming Team Wins Age Groups Title at 28th GCC Aquatics Championships : August 21st, 2021

Qatar’s national swimming team claimed the title of age groups competitions at the 28th GCC Aquatics Championships on Friday, 20 August 2021. The competitions will conclude at the Hamad Aquatic Centre on Sunday, 22 August 2021.

Team Qatar swimmers claimed 24 medals on the second day including 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and two bronze medals taking their tally of medals to 52 including 30 gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait finished second and third respectively. Bahrain UAE and Oman were the other teams in the competition.

Qatari swimmers also emerged on top in all three age categories. While Ziad Morsi (three gold two silver) was the best in the 11-12 years category, Abdullah Al Ghemri (13-14 years) was unstoppable in all six races he took part in.

Omar Ashraf, who set a Gulf record on the opening day, took home five gold and a silver in the 15-17 years group.

The Qatar Swimming Association president Khaleel Al Jabir was thrilled with the overwhelming display of strength.

“This is the first time in the competition’s 28 editions that a country is winning 30 gold medals. We left everyone far behind, and it shows the strength of our programme. I congratulate the boys on a job well done, and we’ll strive to make them more competitive at higher levels,” said Al Jabir.

Qatar’s Skydiving Team Wins Bronze – ‘FAI Mondial 2020 World Championship’ Russia : August 14th, 2021

The Qatar Skydive Team of Qatar Air Sports Committee – Joint Special Forces clinched the bronze medal in the four-way formation skydiving category at the 24th FAI Mondial World Championship yesterday, 14 August 2021, in Russia.

The Qatari team finished third with 160 points. Belgium clinched the gold medal with 193 points, while the USA finished second with 169 points.

Qatar Wins 2 Medals in Arab Table Tennis Championship – Juniors Win Gold, Mens National Team Win Bronze : August 13th, 2021

Qatar’s national team won a second gold after the junior U-13 team crowned champions in their age group at the Arab Table Tennis Championships, held in Jordan’s capital Amman.

The Qatari team defeated its Tunisian counterpart 3-0 in the final. The Qatari juniors yesterday defeated Egypt 3-0 in the finals.

Qatar U-11 also were crowned champions after defeating their Tunisian counterparts 3-2 in the final yesterday.

Qatar national men’s team secured the bronze medal after their 3-0 defeat against Jordan in the semi-finals yesterday.

Younousse and Tijan win Qatar’s first beach volleyball bronze

Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan downed Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Edgars Tocs in the men’s beach volleyball bronze medal match, 21-12, 21-18.

The straight sets victory provided Qatar’s first medal in the sport — and eighth overall medal in the history of the Olympics.

Kalkidan Gezahegne Wins 1st Medal For Bahrain, Tokyo 2020 Olympics : August 07th, 2021

Kalkidan Gezahegne won Bahrain’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games after clinching silver in the Women’s 10,000 metres final.

Kalkidan ran a brilliant race to finish in a time of 29 minutes 56.18 seconds. She was right behind gold-medallist Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, who won in 29:55.32. Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia, who was leading for much of the event, came third in 30:01.72.

Kalkidan’s silver medal was her first in the Olympic Games. It is also Bahrain’s fourth medal in the history of the Olympiad

Tarek Hamdi Wins 1st Medal For Saudi Arabia, Tokyo 2020 Olympics : August 07th, 2021

 Tarek Hamdi wins a silver medal in the Men’s karate competition at Tokyo Olympics.

Hamdi had endured a heartbreaking end to the final of the Men’s Karate Kumite +75kg when a penalty for dangerous play denied him a gold when he was leading 4-1 against Sajag Ganzjadeh of Iran, who departed the mat at Nippon Budokan arena on a stretcher. The match was awarded as a default 4-0 win for the Iranian.

This is Saudi Arabia’s second silver in its history after runner Hadi Sawan picked up silver in the 400m hurdles at the Sydney 2000 Games.

Feryal Abdelaziz Wins 5th Medal For Egypt. First Egyptian Woman to Win Olympic Gold. Powering the Country’s First Gold Medal, Tokyo 2020 Olympics : August 07th, 2021

Egyptian karateka Feryal Abdelaziz clinched the gold medal at Karate competitions in Tokyo, giving Egypt the first gold medal at Tokyo Olympic Games.  

Feryal defeated the World no.1 Irina Zaretska from Azerbaijan 2-0 in the final to clinch the gold medal.  

Feryal became the first Egyptian girl to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games and the 8th athlete in the nation’s history to achieve a gold medal.  

The Egyptian national anthem was played at the Olympic Games for the first time since Athens Olympic Games in 2004 when Karam Gaber won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Abdul Rahman Al Masatfa Wins 2nd Medal For Jordan, Tokyo 2020 Olympics : August 06th, 2021

Abdul Rahman Al Masatfa has won Jordan’s second medal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after clinching a bronze in the 67kg Karate competition, according to the Jordan Olympic Committee News Service. 

The 25-year-old medical student won every single fight in Pool B to book a semifinal match against Turkey’s Eray Samdan, which he lost 2-0.

This is Jordan’s second medal at the current Olympics followingSaleh Al-Sharabaty’s silver in taekwondo 80kg event last week.
