Dr. Farouk El Baz – Egyptian American Space Scientist and Geologist
Farouk El Baz Ph.D., Space Scientist. Geologist
- Formerly – President Sadat’s Scientific Advisor (1978-1981)
- Founder – Center for Earth and Planetary Studies, National Museum of Atmospheric and Space, at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC
- Dr. El Baz played a pivotal role for the Apollo mission where he served as the secretary for the Apollo landing board on the moon, and was responsible for leading the astronaut training team in general science, particularly in moon imaging
So pivotal was he to Apollo that in Tom Hanks’ HBO TV-series, From the Earth to the Moon , El-Baz’s role as an Apollo scientist and astronaut trainer was featured in a segment entitled, “The Brain of Farouk El-Baz,” and a shuttle craft named El-Baz soared through the popular TV-series Star Trek : The Next Generation

- He has won over 31 awards, including achievements in science, in NASA, incl:
- Golden Door Award of the International Institute of Boston
- Nevada Medal of the Desert Research Institute
- The Pioneer Award of the Arab Thought Foundation.
- The Apollo Achievement Award
Honour:
- Asteroid 7371 El-Baz, discovered by American astronomers Eleanor Helin and Schelte Bus at Palomar Observatory in 1978, was named in his honor. The official naming citation was published by the Minor Planet Center on 27 August 2019 ( M.P.C. 115893).

Dr. Tawhida Abdel-Rahman – First Female Doctor Working in the Government, Egyptian Health Ministry : 1933
Dr. Tawhida Abdel-Rahman was one of the first six girls, sent to England from Egypt to study medicine in 1922 based on King Fouad’s decision.
On her return she was appointed in ‘Kitchener Charitable Hospital – The General Hospital in Shubra, Government Health Ministry – making her the First Female Doctor working for the Egyptian Government Health Ministry.
She passed away in 1974.

Egyptian Women’s Day – March 16th
Hamida Khalil was the first of six Egyptian women who were shot dead on March 16, 1919 by British soldiers while they were protesting colonialism.
This date marks the Egyptian Women’s Day.
Highlights: About the first Egyptian woman to die at the hands of British occupation:
- Hamida was born in Gamalia district in Cairo and was known as the “revolutionary girl.”
- She joined protesters who gathered outside Hussein Mosque in Cairo and was one of 300 women who took to streets in the first female demonstration known in Egyptian history
- Four days after her murder, some 1,500 women organized an anti-colonialism protest
- March 16 was chosen as Egyptian women’s day as the beginning of decades of women’s struggle against colonialism and for their political and education rights.

Soad Hosny – Egyptian Cinema’s Sweetheart : Birthdate – January 26th, 1942
Soad Hosny, Egyptian Cinema Superstar Sweetheart ,dubbed by her fans as ‘Egyptian Cindrella’.
Her most prominent roles include her roles in “Al- Ashqya’ al-Thalatha” (Three Naughty Boys) (1962), directed by Hossam Eddine Mostafa; “Be’r el-herman” (The Well of Deprivation) (1969), directed by Kamal el-Sheikh; “Khaly Balak Men Zouzou” (Take Care of Zouzou) (1974), written by the exceptional poet Salah Jaheen and directed by Niazi Mostafa, and “Sagheera ‘Al Hob” (Too Young to Fall in Love) (1966), which was also directed by Niazi Mostafa.
Hosny used her outstanding talent to call for gender equality in the TV series “Hekayat Hwa we Heyain” (1985) that achieved booming success.

Egypt – World’s Largest Exporter of Frozen Strawberries : 2019
Egypt was the world’s number one exporter of frozen strawberries in 2019, according to a report by the United Nations’ (UN) World Trade Center.
The Egyptian Food Export Council revealed that Egyptian exports of frozen strawberries made up 20% of all global exports last year, amounting to about 140,000 tons valued at $165 million
In second place behind Egypt is Poland, who exported 94,000 tons of frozen strawberries in 2019. Mexico came in third with 84,000 tons, with Morocco coming in fourth place with 73,000 tons, and in fifth place was China with 48,000 tons.
