Syrian weightlifter Mohammed al-Kateb finished 10th overall at the World Youth Championships held in Ismailia, Egypt, with participation from athletes representing 52 countries.
Al-Kateb placed ninth in the clean and jerk and recorded a total lift of 327 kg after lifting 148 kg in the snatch and 179 kg in the clean and jerk.
Competing in a field of 28 athletes, al-Kateb broke the Syrian national clean and jerk record twice. He first lifted 177 kg to surpass the previous mark of 176 kg before improving it to 179 kg on his second attempt.
He also set a new Syrian total record with 327 kg, surpassing the previous national mark of 325 kg.
